What is Erectile Dysfunction?Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to gain or maintain an erection, sufficient for satisfactory sexual intercourse. It is a very common problem, affecting half of Irish men over 50.

Most men will experience some sort of difficulty in getting an erection over their lives. This difficulty for some men will only be a temporary problem and will often be related back to a specific set of circumstances such as stress, tiredness or even alcohol intake. Erectile Dysfunction is only a problem when it is persistent and recurring. While Erectile Dysfunction is more common in older men, it can occur at any age.

Erectile Dysfunction can also be caused by physical conditions such as Diabetes, uncontrolled High Blood Pressure and Vascular Disease (this is the narrowing of blood vessels) and can be an ‘early warning sign’ of heart disease. Erectile Dysfunction can also be caused by conditions that affect your nerves and hormonal balance. Psychological issues such as stress, depression and anxiety can also contribute to Erectile Dysfunction. In most cases Erectile Dysfunction is caused by a combination of both physical and psychological factors.

Since erectile dysfunction symptoms can vary, some men might want to speak to a healthcare professional before they begin to treat it. Speak to your GP or a pharmacist if you’re concerned about symptoms.

As part of the “Viagra and the World” of Big Pharma, Viagra is now available to men over the age of 50 who are suffering from erectile dysfunction, and for those who suffer from other medical conditions.

In a recent study published in theBritish Medical Journalby researchers at University College London, the drug was found to be effective in increasing blood flow to the penis, a crucial feature for men with erectile dysfunction. The drug is available by prescription only.

“It’s important to understand that Viagra is not an aphrodisiac,” said lead author Dr. James O’Neill, from the London School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina.

“Our data shows that patients who take Viagra will be able to achieve and maintain an erection of an hardness of up to three to four meters (2 to 3.5 inches) when using it.”

O’Neill said he hopes the drug will make men more comfortable in sex and has a “big future”.

According to the study, “Viagra, when taken for more than 10 minutes, caused a significant decrease in the amount of blood flow to the penis, a significant reduction in the amount of blood flow to the scrotum and a reduction in the overall sexual experience.”

The study was published on February 25 in theJournal of Sexual Medicine.

The study authors found that Viagra, when taken for 10 minutes, “increased blood flow to the penis, and increased blood flow to the scrotum”.

Viagra’s ability to enhance blood flow to the penis is well known, and it has been a significant factor in improving erectile function.

O’Neill said that the study “demonstrates that the use of Viagra in men with erectile dysfunction can be beneficial in increasing their sexual performance.”

O’Neill has previously worked for Eli Lilly and Company, which owns Viagra. He said that the drug is available for men over the age of 18 with a condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It is not currently recommended for those with another condition called obstructive uropathy.

Viagra was approved in 1998 by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. However, the FDA has not approved it for the treatment of BPH.

In 2010, the FDA approved Viagra for treating erectile dysfunction in men aged 18 and over.

“While the effectiveness of Viagra is not yet established in clinical studies, the long-term effects of this medication have not been well-established,” O’Neill said. “Therefore, we hope this study will help clinicians make the most of Viagra for patients that can benefit from it.”

O’Neill said that Viagra has the potential to be a “world-renowned treatment” that can help men “wherever they are”.

“However, the side effects of Viagra have been well-documented and many patients who use it experience unwanted side effects,” he said. “The side effects can include headache, flushing, dizziness, nasal congestion, and visual disturbances.”

He said the drug should be used only as needed, not under any circumstances.

“It’s a long-term treatment that must be closely monitored to ensure it remains effective for long-term use.”

O’Neill said he hopes that the drug will be used more regularly in patients with other health conditions that may require it.

“I hope that the drug is well-tolerated and that other therapies are available to treat the condition.”
